I'm 6'1" 230lbs size 11 boot. I bought the 164x. After 14 years absent from the sport, I recently moved to NW Pa. I have 6 resorts within an hour drive so decided it was time to ride again. First time out I took my old Lamar. 3rd run down I caught an edge and was sent ass over end. Im not as young as I once was so it took 3 weeks to recover but, I wasn't giving g up. After doing research and learning how much technology has changed in over 15 years since I bought my last board. I decided to go all in and buy a completely new setup. I ride switch often with my bindings set +15, -9. I wanted something that could hold on to the ice of the east coast and was good for just cruising the trails and the occasional bombing down the slopes. After looking at many boards, one of my local shops suggested the trooper. I was drawn to the simple but detailed design. After sleeping on it for 2-3 days I decided to pull the trigger and buy it. Compared to the old camber of a 15 year old Lamar, I felt like I was relearning how to ride. This board just floats and there were a few time when I got a little squirrely and was bracing for an impact that never came. Once I got used to the board and found my rhythm, there is nothing stopping me now. This was such a great purchase and have no regrets. I cant wait for next season to start so I can get back out there.
its just overall really nice too use especially as an all mountain board
Bought 157, 5’10, 180, 10.5 shoe. The board was sold out through NS, but they were very nice to respond explaining and offering a substitute if I was interested. That was highly appreciative and a nice touch. I found it through another retailer. I’m mostly a downhill hill rider, but I love riding switch, and I love true twins that excel in downhill for that flexibility. This board was awesome just for that reason even with the directional twin shape. I took this out on keystone, CO. The hill received snow the prior day, and froze overnight. Morning hill was an ice cube, then warmed and got very choppy by afternoon. This board rocked in and out of all conditions. Quick turning and way damper than the rating. Switch was amazing. It wasn’t powder but I felt like there would be a lot of float to this bad boy. Highly recommend!!
I got some early Access to this board and I thought it was very versatile whether it was in POW or the park fresh groomed snow it was great! The edge is really great you can just rip back and forth no problem. Love this board I dont think I'll get a new one for a very very long time.
I fell in love with snowboarding when I was about 46. I bought an old, used K2 Recon Riser 161 and became attached to it. Over the past few years, every time I looked into a new board, the huge number of styles and various technologies made my head swim. This year (2025, December) my daughter, 17, started snowboarding and when I got her a new board I got a little jealous. Yet again, I was lost in a sea of options. With a little guidance from the local shop, and a lot of hand wringing, I decided on the Never Summer Trooper. My style is pretty laid back now that I am 56, but I do like to put a little speed on and just carve the slopes. Occasionally I get turned around so I think it is also important for me to dial-in switch riding. I bought the board this morning and they had it ready in a flash. I was so stoked I went straight to the local to get a feel for it and I was blown away. The first thing I noticed on the lift was how light it is. My old board was 161 and my new NS Trooper is 161X, but the Trooper is so much lighter. Turns are far easier to initiate on the Trooper and my 2 hour session today was immense fun. Speed came on predictably, so I wasn’t just going over a rise and suddenly flying down the other side. Speed increased incrementally, allowing me to scrub some speed off under control, as opposed to panic speed-scrubs on my old board. At the end of the day, I actually started thinking about getting some advanced lessons and upping my snowboard game. The NS Trooper felt so controllable it boosted my confidence about improving my skills this season. Super, super stoked that I snagged this. Seriously becoming an “always Never Summer” snowboarder here!
