As far as all-mountain goes, the proto FR stands up to the best. I had some preconceived notions of what I would like about this board when I demoed it, and quite frankly, it was all that and more. I didn’t realize how well it would preform in pow. It’s a surfy carve, and while it’s stiffer, the early rise and tail transition allow it to be a bit more nimble.
I bought the new model, then found an older version, used, that I bought so I can ride it in low coverage. Now I got a Proto FR for every condition imaginable. It’s a quiver killer, so I made a quiver of proto fr’s!
I have been snowboarding for 22 years.
Started riding ND borads 5 years ago with Proto type 2. Right there I was hooked. Got the proto synthesis when it came out and saw the improvement.
Last year I got FR and man, I sold all of my boards. I was blown away by how this board rides. If you know what you are doing, this board will give you the ride of your life.
It handles ice, groom, powder, jumps, carving, and I even attack moguls with it. That is how confident I am riding this board.
I used be extremely uncomfortable on moguls but I attack them now days.
For me it's one board that can do it all .
I have to thanks NS and feel fortunate to have this technology available to me to have fun out there.
Let me start by saying, that I have been riding NS boards for approximately 20+ years now. I started with the Legacy, Heritage, Chairman, Big Gun. The Big Gun wasn’t my thing and NS recommended the Proto FRX.
I’m 6’4”, 210lbs and 13 boot. I’m also aging at 51. I’m still a hard charger but no longer tackle the park.
First few days on the Proto was on fresh powder in Telluride. The Proto handled very well. Board carved and tracked very nicely. The last few days were groomers and the triple camber really likes to dig in. When riding the Proto, turns seemed to be initiated quicker and crisper. The Proto really likes to bite hard when you push it. Board has a ton of dampening and is buttery smooth. The Proto handled extremely well on uneven snow and charged right over it. I can’t recall any chatter and board is very stable at speed. . The Proto has plenty of pop. I felt very at home on the board. The Proto triple camber has a little bit of a learning curve but you will figure it out quickly.
I would highly recommend the Proto FRX. Great overall board, fun to ride and very responsive.
Hats off to you at NS. This board is so forgiving and almost impossible to catch an edge. I can't recommend it enough.
