Wow. Never felt my heel edge lock in so soon in the turn and so effortlessly. Fun. Lots of power. I started off easy, and as I applied more speed and steeper angles, I found myself thinking I should keep adding more. Built to CHARGE. Easy to disengage the edge and feather speed, but you won't want to...
Off-piste was fun. No surprises. Felt the dampening at higher speeds in the flats near the base area.
Loved it. I can't wait to get it dialed in after some more quality time.
Just got my board last week and took it out today at Jackson Hole. Powder day and this handled like a champ.
Waited a while to write a review wanted to ride all the conditions the Upper Peninsula of Michigan has to offer…
This board holds an edge in racer ice, cruddy iced over snowmaking snow, mogul troughs, and obviously groomers. In powder the thing floats with no set back, however I do prefer my shorter Harpoon in trees, the FR handles them great just like the playful feel of harpoon in trees. It pops when transitioning edge to edge, like it just wants more. Thing basically pushes you to push it and handles what you throw at it with a smirk.
It shines even brighter when handling a toboggan, I patrol, When traversing it bites and holds even with the weight of a fully loaded ride. It holds stronger than any previous board I have owned while doing E stops, while practicing, luckily no E stops with guests yet.
This is the board I have been looking for….straight up knocked it out of the park!
If you can an FR for a daily driver and Harpoon for powder days is just about the best thing!
My first NS experience was 6 or so years ago when the rental shop put me on a Ripsaw. Since then I have been hooked. I have built up my collection with a Snowtrooper, a Ripsaw, a Chairman and now I have a brand new Proto FR that has quickly earned top spot in my collection. I'm an older rider, 62 years old, and I manage to get 20 or so days a year in. My second day on the Proto FR I got 19 runs for over 31K ft lift vertical in at Keystone in some great conditions. Thanks for being such a great company with awesome boards.
This deck will up your level in snowboarding. It's built for the entire mountain. I'll take this whip everywhere and feel it rise to the challenge. Carve tight or wide lines on corduroy with ease. Go to the chutes with it and feel the strength it holds. Huck off a cornice or cliff and find that its super strong in the air as well. Seek out the fields above tree line and enjoy eating freshies. Dive into the glades and feel how snap turns finish themselves. Hike the terrain park and slap a handrail. Slide on the dance floor box. Grab air. Twist and shout. I've smacked so many trees and rocks with both my decks and every time they withstand the blow. This deck is strong, Interesting thing is - it makes the rider stronger too. I've found that less effort is needed to do the most average of things which gives me a minimum of 1.5 hours more on the slopes. The Triple Camber Technology allows me to conserve my energy. The Drag Free is what sets this apart from others. When I was young and had a size 9 boot for example, the waist of the deck was an afterthought. As I got older and have a 13 boot, the Drag Free is essential. Feeling a true stomp landing with the correct waist is vital. Laying down the edge extremely hard with zero thought of toe or heel touching the ground is a massive weight lifted off my shoulders. It's like I'm a teenager all over again. Somehow the guys at NS figured a way to press the fountain of youth into this design. But how did they get the turbo boosters in there? Because this deck can straight up fly!
My decks are the 162DF and the 166DF. I absolutely love them both!
