I'm a guy that has ridden on and off for up for a week every few years for the last couple of decades. Can handle most of the mountain, but going cautiously on the blacks/double blacks. Rarely ride switch. Used to do big 40-60ft jumps at the park, but those days are currently behind me. Like trees. Last owned a board about 20 years ago, but had enough of rentals, even the premium board options just seemed to be the wrong size or purpose. So I took matters into my own hands and bought the proto t3 FR in 164. I'm 6'1", 205lb, US10.5W boot. I bought this board blind, as couldn't test it, but Gemini AI told me Never Summers were damp and good on ice but also alright in powder. I loved they are hand-made in the USA. The more I read about the different Never Summer boards, and conversed with AI about them, the more I became convinced that I should have bought the Eclipse. But then I saw what Holden Samuels was doing with this board in the Free Ride World Tour, and realised I had bought an absolute lethal weapon of a board to the resort. Turns out, instead of expected powder, my day of arrival was warm and there was a thunderstorm on the mountain over night. The entire Japanese mountain of Rusutsu was smoother and harder than an ice block from my freezer. Yet, I went out that crisp morning, up the gondola, and I never lost an edge. I ignored the length of the board and just lifted my toes and heels respectively, and I turned no problem. No sliding out. No shuddering. Just the bone chilling sound of steel on ice, while people fell and slid beside me, and I remained obliviously cruising down the ice mountain. The next couple of days the snow softened ever so slightly, and I was overtaking literally every snowboarder on the runs I was on. No chattering. Just solid edge. I had to modify my riding to be on edge, even on the flat sections, as the middle rocker sometimes wiggled to the side otherwise. I also noticed after the first day that there seemed to be some ever so minor separation, like a fingernail-thin sliver between the metal edge of the board and the layer beneath. I haven't had a snowboard for a while to fully understand if this is normal or not. In summary, I love how stable, fast, reliable, steady this board is. I love that there is no ceiling on what this board can do on the mountain- that I could literally ride it as I am now, or push it to the limit (one day, maybe) like Holden Samuels.
I have been riding a 2008=09 Never Summer Premier F1 that I bought new a million years ago. I wasn't sure what to expect with Triple Camber Hybrid at all. I just knew that I loved my F1, knew it was time and was going to stay with NS. I have done almost 50,000 vertical on it over two sessions and let me say, it's incredible. I thought that the board would be catchy, especially on groomed flats on the base. Nope, It feels like it's just floating over the snow. The turn initiation is so fast because there is less pressure on the nose and tail, Just a little twitch and it goes. Then when you put some pressure on the edge it just digs in and holds. I'm riding in the Northeast and we have real ice. No problem. Then later in the day when the conditions get all chopped up, this board doesn't even acknowledge those conditions. It just blasts right over everything. It's very easy to ride, once you learn to trust it's surfy swishy ride. You can feel the board kind of squirming around as it goes over crud but it just tracks straight and fast. You will NOT catch an edge. It floats over everything. I find myself just ignoring ruts and pushed snow and just bombing everything.
I rode my buddies was one of the best boards I have been on. I almost have to try to catch an edge. And can get some insane speed I recommend this board for a smooth and easy ride
This board is perfection. In my opinion, the previous FR was too stiff and it didn’t come in smaller sizes. I had a chance to demo the 152. Very fast board. Got close to my top speeds from last season without really trying. Felt super stable at fast speeds as I chased friends. Can’t recommend this board enough to intermediate to advanced riders looking to go fast and work on getting those deep carves.
I have been on 'Never Summer' for 11 years, always with Rocker-Camber. Most recently on the 'Proto Synthesis.' So it was nerve racking to move to something new. I spoke to customer service and after a long chat, it came down to "trust me... it works.' 12 sessions on it so far in the 25-26 season and they were right, it works. No negatives, between the rocker-camber and triple camber. The positive is, this thing HOLDS. Really leaning into my edge with utmost in confidence. Groomers and fresh snow. I am a believer and super stoked I made this change.
