The Never Summer Hood trip was sick. I was chillin at my house when Decicco hit me up and asked if they could swoop me on their way from Colorado to Hood for a session at Windells. Of course I was stoked and down. The crew of Nick Decicco, Chris Lynch and Ryan Cruze “RC” showed up late one night and we were outta Salt Lake the next morning at Sunrise. With it being an 11-12 hour drive directly west into the sun and in mid summer, it was hot as f***. It’s wild to believe that when it’s 100+ degrees you can still go snowboarding. We stopped along the way only for Gas and to bang out some Skate tricks. RC got a different trick at every stop and it was sick. We rolled into the Windells and met up with the rest of the crew, Rick and Bill Rodriguez, Ryan Stephens and photographer Kevin Westenbarger. Right before sunset we got busy setting up our tents in “Tent Village”. Tent village is a bunch of tents behind the Arc(employee housing at Windells) around a sick pond in the woods right below Mt Hood. With base camp set up, we rolled over to the camp for an awesome skate session inside “BOB” the indoor skate facility at Windells. The Shredding started the next morning and for the next 6 days we would Snowboard and skate the days away in the unreal snow and skate parks at Windells. Riding at windells in the middle of summer is riding the sickest park in the country with soft slushy snow and perfect warm weather. What more could you ask for? We were hanging out in the beautiful Oregon woods and snowboarding in August. The week was a blast and finished with a bang. The night before our departure was the eve of RC’s birthday. We went on an epic journey, including a late night 5 person canoe ride to the island in the middle of the pond and a trip to the river to watch the bats swoop bugs off the top of the water. Whatever you do make sure to take time one summer to go to camp at Windells, you will be stoked. For us it was an epic trip that will never be forgotten. Big thanks go out to Never Summer for sending us and Windells for having our team come visit.
Peace,

Congrats to Andrew, winner of the September USASA Never Summer longboard drawing. The Descent is a super fun skate deck, have a blast!

Never Summer is happy to announce that the Rocker & Camber design we introduced to the snowboard industry (R.C. Technology) is now a patented design (US Patent No. 7798514). We are extremely proud of our engineering team for pioneering this unique board geometry and incorporating it into the world of high performance snowboards. Truly setting Never Summer apart, we are once again excited to be a part of this revolutionary time in snowboarding. Thanks to all who have supported NS, older die-hard fans and new ones!
I would highly recomend this trail over the next few weeks! The aspens are in full force up there right now and the drive/ride/and shuttle are one of a kind. Its about a 15min ride from the top of the east trail. Head into leadville and turn left on 5th and go till you hit the first bridge on the dirt road and go right to the top. then head back down 5th and take a right on alder and go to the end and you will see the trail. You can either leave a car at the bottom or trade off drivers. The drive from the bottom of the trail is only about 2min drive up so its a real quick fun run with great scenery!
Enjoy-NS
NS Snow Sales Manager and all-around jokester Mike Gagliardi was recently rappin’ it out at a product clinic with the crew at Wright Life in Fort Collins, CO. Wright Life was the first shop in Colorado to carry Never Summer and have been giving us a lot of love over the years. No stangers to the chilly mountains of Colorado and a chilled PBR, they let the good times roll. Thanks to Bill, Holly and the whole shop crew – you guys kill it!
Sean Smith, 41 years old, was the heart-and-soul father figure of a small skate community of 20 or so guys, ranging from 16 to 42 years old that would storm the surrounding foothills of the Central Valley every weekend. One day this past July, Sean began to push the limits in hopes of passing another rider for the lead. In doing this, his speed sucked him into the opposite lane of traffic and caused him to collide with an oncoming vehicle. He had his helmet strapped on as well as all his other protective gear, but it still wasn’t enough to save him. Sean passed away later that afternoon.
The same drive and passion that Sean displayed towards longboarding is now in the hands of the younger generation of skaters. His stoke and passion for longboarding has multiplied a million times over. The Wonder Valley Race has been previously put on by Sean Smith but is now in the hands of another. This is being done in efforts to keep Sean and Savy’s stoke alive and well.
The race is being held Friday, September 24 through Sunday, September 26. Race fee is $30 and covers the cost of gas, food, and camping. The race is open to all ages. No helmet, no skate. This is an outlaw event.
Prizes will be awarded and first place walks away with a board crafted by Steve Guillen of Boards by G. Swag and prizes have been donated by Never Summer, Venom, Kracked Skulls, Stoked Skateboards, Khiro, Daddies Boardshop, Radar, Timeship Racing, Bustin, Sundae Skates, Phat Deanz, C R Boardworks, Roger Bros, Gunmetal Trucks, and The Boardroom.
